If you find the commercialism of Christmas too much to bear then head for some genuine wilderness at Kasbah Africa in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, just an hour’s drive from Marrakech. The recently renovated nature lodge has just eight suites and the only connection with the nativity you will find is the pet donkey! The Kasbah is located in the Ouirgane region of Toubkal National Park, and commands spectacular views over the Azzaden River Valley from its elevated position. Rooms have log fires plus a telescope and binoculars for star and bird watching. The four night package, arriving on 22 December, costs from £249 pp (two sharing) – a saving of £150 pp – which includes return transfers from Marrakech, four nights’ full-board in a suite, a ‘Day with Berbers’ excursion in Azzaden Valley and ‘Cooking with Berbers’ activity or a choice of day walk. Flights extra (approx. £190 return).
